Juniors Get Future Ready at FutureU

For Highline Public Schools juniors, the future came into focus during a day spent on a college campus.

At FutureU, 11th‑grade students traveled to Green River College where they explored what life after high school could look like--whether that’s college, career training, or the military. The experience gave students the opportunity to step onto a campus, ask questions, and begin connecting their interests to real opportunities after high school.

“This experience helped me understand how my decisions now can shape my future and what I want next.” Maria C., a junior at Tyee High School.

Exploring Possibilities Beyond Graduation

During FutureU, students explored post‑high school pathways through interactive experiences designed to support informed decision‑making. They learned about college, career training, and military options; gained a clearer understanding of financial aid and budgeting; and experienced a college campus firsthand.

Together, these experiences help students connect their interests to real opportunities after graduation and better understand the steps needed to reach their goals.

“I used to feel discouraged about the cost of college, but now I understand financial aid and feel clearer about what I want to study.”   Sofia A., junior at Highline High School

Connected to the High School and Beyond Plan

FutureU is part of Highline’s High School and Beyond Plan, a required, multi‑year process that supports students in building an individualized plan for life after high school. Through advising, career exploration, and real‑world learning experiences, students explore interests, set goals, and make informed decisions about their futures.

“FutureU creates space for students to ask questions and explore possibilities that often feel out of reach.”  Cynthia Morales Belmonte, College and Career Access Specialist for Highline Public Schools.

Experiences like FutureU help students move from planning to action, supporting them to stay on track for graduation and postsecondary success.

What’s Next: CollegeCon

Students and families are invited to continue the planning started at FutureU by attending CollegeCon, a free college and career event for students in grades 7-12 and their families.
