Maritime Strong: Sailing to the Future

Maritime Strong: Sailing to the Future

Dear Families,

At the end of this school year, Principal Tremain Holloway will depart from Maritime High School to pursue a Doctorate of Education at Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Maritime High School has the full support of Highline Public Schools and Northwest Maritime Center through this leadership transition and beyond. We do not waver in our commitment to providing students access to the maritime industry.

In partnership with students, families, staff and community members, Highline is currently developing a new strategic plan. One of the emerging strategic plan goals includes providing students with diverse opportunities to explore and develop the skills and knowledge students need for their future. This goal aligns with Maritime High School’s mission of graduating students who are ready to launch a Maritime career or continue studying in a 2 or 4-year college. Maritime will be an integral part of the district’s strategy to meet its new strategic plan goals.

Northwest Maritime Center continues its work to provide hands-on maritime experiences for Maritime students, support staff with recruiting students, and engage industry partners in the school’s mission and activities. Northwest Maritime Center also leads the fundraising efforts to support the additional maritime-related field experiences that are a hallmark of the school; $6 million has been raised to date. Northwest Maritime Center has staff at Maritime High School and across the Puget Sound working in support of the school’s success.

We thank Principal Holloway for his leadership in the inaugural years of this high school. While we will miss his steadfast leadership, we also see this as an opportunity to find a leader that is well-positioned to steer this unique and innovative high school as it continues to grow.

You have the opportunity to help select the new principal. Highline Public Schools is seeking input from families, students, staff and community partners.

What characteristics and strengths do you believe are most important for the next Maritime leader to possess? Share your input through an online ThoughtExchange conversation. You can also see and rate others’ feedback using the five-star scale. The exchange will close on Wednesday, March 29.
