As part of Highline’s transition to Microsoft, students’ Google Drive files have been copied to Microsoft OneDrive. This completes the file transfer announced in June.
No action is needed if your student has not stored files in Google Drive.
Find Transferred Files in OneDrive
Students can access OneDrive from a school or personal computer. They do not need to download the OneDrive app.
To open OneDrive:
- Sign in to ClassLink.
- Open the Microsoft folder and select the OneDrive icon.
- Open the folder named Google Transfer Files.
Teachers will provide additional sign-in support at school in the fall.
Changes to Google Access
Students will continue to have access to their existing Google Drive files throughout the 2026–2027 school year. However, beginning September 2, 2026, students will no longer be able to create new Google files.
Students should use OneDrive, Teams, and other Microsoft tools for new schoolwork.
New forms should be created in Microsoft Forms, and form responses can be viewed in Excel.
Screencastify videos have been moved to cloud storage and are now available through Screencastify Library.
Content That Was Not Transferred
The following content was not moved to OneDrive:
- Google Photos
- Files stored in Shared drives
If personal phone photos are syncing to Google Photos through a school account, disconnect the sync so personal photos are no longer connected to the school account.
What Students Can Do Now
Students can:
- Open OneDrive and locate the Google Transfer Files folder.
- Review their transferred files.
- Begin using OneDrive, Teams, and other Microsoft tools for new schoolwork.
If expected files are missing, students can ask a teacher or school staff member for help when school resumes.
Build Good File Habits
As students begin using OneDrive, these habits can help keep schoolwork organized and easy to find:
- Organize before you save. Create folders for each class, project, or school year.
- Use clear file names. Choose meaningful names, such as Science Lab Report – Ecosystems, instead of Document1.
- Keep only what you need. Delete duplicate files and move older work into an archive folder to reduce clutter.
- Save work in the right place. Taking a few extra seconds to file documents correctly can save time later.
- Review and clean up regularly. Spend a few minutes each month organizing folders, removing unnecessary files, and making sure important work is easy to locate.
This transfer will help students continue to access their learning materials as Highline transitions to Microsoft tools.
