Friday Family Newsletter - August 19, 2022

Dear MHS Families, 

School is less than two weeks away and we are so excited to greet you all. Here are some important pieces of information that families have asked for:

School Supply List

Transportation:

• We know that families are eager to learn what bus routes are available. Our Transportation Department is still working on routes and will have information by the end of next week 
• We previously mentioned that ORCA cards to travel on public transportation in King County would be provided to all students. However, it is now an online process. To sign up for an ORCA card, click here. If students do not have an ORCA card and would like to ride public transportation, they can give the bus driver their student number.

Tech Drive: 

We will be holding a Back to School drive at our campus, in front of the office, on Wednesday, August 31st from 9-3PM. Students will be picking up their device, field trip forms and other items. A guardian must be present to sign their waivers. If you need other times or arrangements, please let the office know.

• Last names beginning with E-H: 10-11

• Last names beginning with I-L: 11-12

• Last names beginning with M-Q: 12:30-1:30

• Last names beginning with R-Z: 1:30-3

Field Work Experience Days:

• Here at Maritime, we call off site learning, “Field Work Experiences” (FWE). You will see this acronym in many places. A calendar with all the FWE dates can be found here. Here is a glance at the second week of schools FWEs:

  • Sept 7th 

    • 9th Grade - Duwamish Hill Preserve

    • 10th Grade - Fisherman’s Terminal

  • Sept 8th

    • 9th Grade - Herring House Park

    • 10th Grade - Issaquah Hatchery

• The following week we will begin some boat based Field Work Experiences. Maritime High School will be providing foul weather gear and boots for all students. Read here for more information on “How to Dress.”

Save the Dates:

• August 30th (Evening)- Arcade Night at Waterland Arcade/Parent Night at Marina Mercantile (PTSA Hosted) - Information coming soon!

• August 31st - Back to School Drive - 9-3

• September 1st - First Day of School 

• September 2nd - Full Day of School 8:30-3 (Not an Early Release Friday)

• September 5th - Labor Day - No School

• September 6th - Picture Day - 8AM - 9:30AM

• September 9th - Early Release Friday - 8:30-1PM

• October 13th - Community Learning Showcase - Evening event for all families to view student’s learning. Exacts times are TBD.
