Friday Family Newsletter - November 12, 2021

November 12, 2021

Dear MHS Families,

Happy Friday! What an amazing week we had. Thanks to everyone who attended our virtual Grand Opening earlier this week! For those of you who missed it, a link to the webinar will be on our website next week. Feel free to check it out at your convenience.

I wanted to provide you with an update on our Logo/Mascot decision. First and foremost, thanks to everyone who took part in this process thus far. From voting on multiple surveys and providing verbal feedback, your thoughts are appreciated and valued. In an effort to be more calibrated as a committee of students, our Logo/Mascot Committee motioned to postpone meetings and decisions until Spring 2022. This will hopefully give our students more time to connect with maritime industry folks so that our Logo/Mascot reflects the values and vision we desire to portray as a school community.  Thanks for your patience as we work collectively to develop a meaningful logo/mascot that represents our MHS.

For those of you who have submitted their signed student copy of the Student Field Experience Work Safety Agreement we thank you for promptness. We are still missing a few copies at the moment. Please submit to the main office as soon as possible. Thanks for your cooperation. See news for next week below.

 Next Week-at- a-Glance:

  • November 19, 22, 23 & 24- Student Presentations of Learning (POLs) – conducted fully remotely via Zoom

    • Individual Presentations of Learning (POLs) are focused on students’ learning plans. Students will go over their vision, goals, and evidence to show progress from this quarter. Attendees provide feedback that will inform students’ revisions to their Learning Plan for the upcoming quarter.

  • Families have been sent sign-up instructions by their crew leaders, Ms. Mia or Ms. Rodriguez, to your email and student’s Highline Gmail account. Please coordinate and communicate within your family unit to sign up for one, 45-minute block of time if you haven’t already done so. (30 minutes of presentation & 15 minutes of feedback).

  • In addition to their own POL, students will sign up for and attend other POLs daily from 11/19-11/24 as a part of their attendance and schoolwork expectations. They are expected to be attentive and give their peers meaningful feedback. They will also have asynchronous assignments 11/19-11/24 from their teachers to complete during the sessions where they are not attending a POL.

  • Please reach out if you have any questions.

Reminders & Save the Dates:

  • November 25th & 26th - No School/Thanksgiving
