One Million Secured for Maritime High School

More than one million federal dollars are heading to Maritime High School! Congress recently passed funding for the school through a government spending package.

Rep. Adam Smith submitted the funding request for Maritime High School for consideration in the 2022 fiscal year appropriations bill.

"We are deeply grateful to Rep. Smith for securing over $1 million in funding to support our new Maritime High School," said Superintendent Susan Enfield. "This is a win not just for Highline Public Schools, but also for our region which relies so heavily on the maritime industry.

Maritime High School will use the funds to establish inclusive programs, policies, and practices to ensure that maritime career opportunities are accessible to all students, focusing on the school’s capacity to recruit, prepare, and empower students who are under-represented in maritime and ocean science careers.

"We are thrilled to have Rep. Smith’s support in creating a powerful, innovative educational experience that is equity-driven, student-centered, and maritime-focused," said Maritime Principal Tremain Holloway. "Maritime High School is dedicated to making a regional impact, and we are grateful for this investment in the transformation of our maritime workforce and industry."

Thank you to Rep. Adam Smith for your support!
