For the next two school years, Maritime High School will be joined by Tyee High School at the Olympic Interim School while a new Tyee facility is under construction.
The two high schools will remain separate entities. They will occupy different areas of campus and will use common areas like the cafeteria and gym at different times. They will have separate bus routes.
MHS will maintain its intimate small-school culture and its unique and innovative educational program. The schedule and classes will be fully independent of Tyee’s.
Tyee is small compared with other comprehensive high schools in Highline. It has around 650 students— about the size of an elementary school. It has a small school culture that is valued by staff and students.
This is not the first time multiple small schools with distinct identities and students on a shared campus in Highline. From 2005 to 2015, Tyee and Evergeen campuses had two or three small schools on each campus. Each school had a distinct school culture, classes, staff and students.
