Why Choose Maritime High School

Discover Maritime High School

At Maritime High School, learning happens everywhere — in classrooms, on the water, and in the community. We prepare every student for success in college, career, and life by combining hands-on learning with strong relationships, real-world experiences, and a commitment to equity and belonging.

Students at Maritime don’t just learn about the world — they engage with it. Through fieldwork, internships, and community partnerships, students explore how their education connects to meaningful, high-wage careers in the maritime and environmental sectors.

Our Promise

Maritime High School was founded on a mission to remove barriers for underrepresented communities and create access to livable-wage careers.
We are dedicated to ensuring that every student:

  • Is seen, heard, known, and supported.
  • Builds skills for both college and career success.
  • Develops confidence and leadership through authentic experiences.
  • Graduates ready to pursue the future of their choosing.

What Makes Maritime Unique

  • Hands-On, Project-Based Learning: Students learn by solving real-world problems in science, technology, and sustainability.
  • Career Exploration: Students gain access to maritime, marine science, and environmental career pathways with guidance from industry professionals.
  • Strong Community Partnerships: Collaboration with local organizations, such as the Port of Seattle and the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition, provides valuable mentorship and learning opportunities.
  • Personalized Education: With small class sizes and individualized support, each student is known and encouraged to reach their full potential.

College and Career Readiness: Students earn credits, skills, and experiences that open doors to college and high-demand maritime careers.

Student Experience

At Maritime High School, learning is immersive and meaningful. Students might conduct water quality research on Puget Sound, design an innovative vessel, or present environmental findings to community partners. Each experience connects academics to the real world — helping students discover their passions and purpose.

Community and Belonging

We believe relationships are at the heart of learning.
Maritime offers a close-knit school community where every student belongs. Our extracurricular opportunities encourage creativity, identity, and leadership, including:

  • Yearbook Club
  • Rainbow Friends (LGBTQ+ and Ally Group)
  • Student Leadership Council
  • Service Learning & Field-Based Projects

Students who wish to participate in athletics may do so at their neighborhood high school by coordinating with that school’s athletic director.
